All sources are selected using both CCPS policy and the suggested selection criteria put forth by Meghan Harper in Reference Sources and Services for Youth (2011). We use the following criteria. Each criterion receives 1 point, totaling a 5 point score:
- Layout and Tools - Is the resource arranged in a way that is benefits elementary or secondary school students? Is it easily accessible? Are there tools that students can use to save information, print, cite, and share?
- Ease of Navigation - Is the database intuitive to use? Can students use the database without assistance?
- Graphics and Videos - Does the resource have updated graphics? Are there videos included as resources? Can students search for just images?
- Quality of Information - Is all of the information current, valid, and relevant to our curriculum? Does the website present a variety of viewpoints and articles? Is the focus narrow for the topic or broad? Are there topics that are absent that are applicable to the curriculum?
- Age-Appropriateness - Can students read the information without assistance? Does the database state a reading level? Is there a read-to-me feature?
