Collection Procedures
Maintaining a collection is much like tending to a massive garden! There are many sections to tend continually throughout the year.
At Cecil Manor, in order to maintain our collection we:
Collection Inventory is done yearly the final two weeks of school.
At Cecil Manor, in order to maintain our collection we:
- Order the best, most relevant, and highly recommended titles two to three times a year, equally spaced
- Purchase and service technology and equipment utilized by our students and staff in the summer and winter breaks
- "Weed" the collection regularly of "MUSTIE" books and media each summer
- Oversee and recommended physical maintenance to the library media space and furnishings during summer and winter breaks
- Update and maintain the online card catalog MARC records on all text and media within the Destiny system weekly throughout the year
- Collaborate with teaching staff and administration to support MSDE standards and curriculum weekly
- Participate in state-wide book award committees such as Blue Crab and Black-Eyed Susan yearly
- Serve on ALA/AASL committees and councils yearly
- Write grants and search out alternate means of adding vital materials to the collection yearly
Collection Inventory is done yearly the final two weeks of school.
- All items in the library are inventoried via bar code scan into the Destiny system.
- Reports are generated showing circulation statistics for the year (used for weeding guidance and orders), late/missing items and student notices to return books.
- Students are asked to return all books prior to the final day of school before summer recess, however books may be returned over summer recess if located by students.
- New acquisitions to the collection are added prior to the start of the new school year, as well as circulation records updated. New acquisitions ordered from Follett Titlewave and Scholastic Inc. come with MARC records and all pertinent information for circulation.
